Vernisáž 19. 2. 2014 o 17.00, výstava potrvá do ± 14. 3. 2014.
Rezidenciu zorganizovali Banská St a nica Contemporary v Banskej Štiavnici a združenie residency.ch z Bernu za podpory Ministerstva kultúry SR a Stadt Gallery Bern.
Martin Kochan: Insulation
Martin Kochan is walking down the street and takes a picture of oil splashes which he comments with his own hands. Then he snaps himself as he aims with a vacuum cleaner or hides behind a locker door. He is kind of a tough and he does and snaps every nonsense that comes to his mind. He shares everything on Facebook and he says it is because of him being leftist. Reportedly, he is also an abstract artist.
And it was just this abstraction that he has searched for in a series of works, dedicated to the topic of insulation. Tissues with painted spots generate a raster which reminds of a raster of a block of flats just being insulated. Painted tissues on a wall can move with air and Kochan seems to be insulated the whole gallery interior with them. He started to work with this topic when he once looked out of a window and saw an opposite house being insulated and since then he is coming back to this topic, whether during his residency in Bern in Switzerland or in his latest exhibition in Plusminusnula gallery.
This series, as well as his spontaneous works using everyday trivialities hold a deeper meaning. Despite the author himself rather talks about that abstraction. By his works Kochan reveals, whether knowingly or not, various problems of his surroundings. For instance, he supported the demonstration for an unconditional income by jumping into a pile of coins in front of Swiss parliament. Kochan is a tough, an abstract artist, a leftist and an activist.
Insulation exhibits Martin Kochan’s latest works produced during his one month artist residency in the PROG centre in Switzerland. Residency was organised by Banská St a nica Contemporary in Banská Štiavnica and residency.ch association in Bern, supported by the Ministry of Culture of Slovak republic and the Stadt Gallery Bern.
